RMS CET 2026: Final Weekend to Apply — Form Closes 20 October
📢 Last Updated: October 10, 2026 at 2:15 PM IST — This article is updated regularly with the latest AISSEE 2027 information, official notifications & expert insights.

Last verified: 10 October 2026 (Saturday afternoon). All dates, fees and eligibility below are CONFIRMED from the NTA-published RMS CET 2026 schedule as reported by The Times of India and Jagran Josh (opened today), plus NTA’s own RMS portal. Anything marked EXPECTED is our reading of the usual NTA pattern — not official.

The deadline is real this time: 10 days left

The National Testing Agency opened the Rashtriya Military School Common Entrance Test (RMS CET) 2026 on 23 September, and the window closes on 20 October 2026 — ten days from today. Fee payment must go through by 11:50 pm on 20 October. Miss that, and the only route left is the late-fee window: 21 to 25 October (up to 5 pm), with an extra Rs 500 late fee.

This is the last full weekend before the form closes. Servers get busy on the final two days — parents who waited for the notification to “settle” should treat this weekend as the deadline.

RMS CET 2026 decides admission to Class 6 and Class 9 in the five Rashtriya Military Schools — Chail (Himachal Pradesh), Ajmer and Dholpur (Rajasthan), and Belgaum and Bengaluru (Karnataka). These are English-medium residential schools run by the Ministry of Defence, open to both defence wards and civilians. The written test is on 13 December 2026 — a pen-and-paper OMR test with multiple-choice questions, conducted across 63 cities.

The three things to get right this weekend

1. The age windows are wider than AISSEE. Class 6 candidates must be 10 to 13 years as on 31 March 2027 (born 1 April 2014 to 31 March 2017) — note that a 13-year-old who is too old for AISSEE Class 6 can still apply here. Class 9 candidates must be 13 to 16 years as on 31 March 2027 (born 1 April 2011 to 31 March 2014).

2. Keep documents ready before you log in. The form needs the usual set: birth certificate, a government photo ID, a recent photograph and signature, and the previous class marksheet. Class 6 applicants must have passed (or be studying in) Class 5; Class 9 applicants must have passed Class 8 from a government or recognised school. Class 9 applicants should also note that English is the medium of instruction in Rashtriya Military Schools.

3. Pay the right fee once. General, OBC and OBC-NCL candidates pay Rs 1,000; SC, ST and wards of Armed Forces personnel killed in action (KIA) pay Rs 750. Payments go through the online gateway on the NTA RMS portal — complete it the same day you fill the form, and save the confirmation page.

A brief correction window is EXPECTED after applications close (NTA ran one on 27–28 October in its announced calendar — see our earlier coverage), but it is meant for small fixes, not for finishing a half-filled form.

Why RMS matters even if you’re chasing AISSEE

For many families, RMS CET is the parallel track to AISSEE 2027: five schools, the same December exam season (RIMC on 6 December, RMS on 13 December, UP Sainik School on 20 December), and a defence-run residential education. If your child is preparing for AISSEE, the RMS paper uses the same OMR-MCQ muscle — preparing for both is not double work. Read our December exam-season guide to plan the final stretch.
