Every topper will tell you the same thing: solving previous year papers is the most effective way to prepare for AISSEE. Not mock tests from coaching apps. Not random practice sheets. Actual papers that NTA set in previous years.
The reason is simple. AISSEE repeats patterns. The same type of questions appear every year. If you solve the last 5 years of papers, you will see the patterns yourself.

Do not just solve papers and check answers. That is a waste. Follow this method instead.
Take a 2021 paper. Solve it without any time limit. Focus on understanding every question. Check answers. Note which topics you got wrong.
Make a list of topics where you lost marks. For example:
| Topic | Questions Wrong | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Mensuration | 3 out of 5 | Revise formulas, solve 20 more problems |
| Current Affairs | 4 out of 7 | Start daily newspaper reading |
| Coding-Decoding | 2 out of 3 | Practice 30 more questions |
Spend one week fixing the weak topics identified in Step 2. Use NCERT and guide books.
Take a 2022 paper. Solve it with the actual time limit (2 hours for Class 6, 2.5 hours for Class 9). Simulate exam conditions. No phone, no breaks.
Do this for all 5 years of papers. By the time you finish, you will have covered every topic that AISSEE tests.

Based on previous year cutoffs:
| Category | Class 6 Target | Class 9 Target |
|---|---|---|
| General | 180+ out of 300 | 250+ out of 400 |
| OBC | 160+ out of 300 | 220+ out of 400 |
| SC/ST | 140+ out of 300 | 200+ out of 400 |
If you are consistently scoring above these targets in previous year papers, you are in a safe zone.
| Mistake | Why It Hurts |
|---|---|
| Solving without checking answers | You repeat the same errors |
| Not timing yourself | Exam pressure will slow you down |
| Solving only Class 6 papers for Class 6 prep | Different difficulty levels |
| Ignoring GK section in papers | Easy marks being missed |
| Solving papers from before 2020 | Pattern has changed significantly |
