Last verified: 6 October 2026. RIMCEE dates (6 December exam, 9–11 October correction window) are ✅ CONFIRMED from the NTA schedule reported by Jagran Josh; RMS CET details (13 December exam, 20 October application deadline) are ✅ CONFIRMED from the official notification reported by NDTV; the UP Sainik School exam date of 20 December is 🔶 EXPECTED (tentative, per the official society website). AISSEE 2027 on 31 January is the tentative date from NTA’s exam calendar.
December is not just a month anymore for defence-school aspirants — it is a gauntlet. Three separate entrance exams land within fifteen days of each other: RIMCEE on 6 December, RMS CET on 13 December, and the UP Sainik School exam on 20 December. And just to keep the year-end interesting, the JNVST Class 6 paper sits a week before all of them, on 28 November. If your child is appearing in more than one, this is the month that decides their year.

| Exam | Date | For | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| JNVST Class 6 | 28 November 2026 | Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas | Registration done, prep on |
| RIMCEE Stage-1 (written) | 6 December 2026 | RIMC Dehradun, Class 8 | Applications closed 30 Sep; late fee ends 7 Oct; correction window 9–11 Oct ✅ |
| RMS CET 2026 | 13 December 2026 | 5 Rashtriya Military Schools, Class 6 & 9 | Applications open till 20 Oct (5 pm); late-fee window 21–25 Oct ✅ |
| UP Sainik School | 20 December 2026 | Lucknow & Gorakhpur, Class 6 & 9 | Forms close 25 Oct (5 pm), 200-mark single OMR paper 🔶 tentative |
| AISSEE 2027 | 31 January 2027 | 33 Sainik Schools + new schools | Notification awaited; exam tentative 🔶 |
The sharpest point first: only one of these four still accepts applications — RMS CET. The RIMCEE window is already shut (late-fee route closes tomorrow, 7 October at 11:50 pm), JNVST forms are done, and the UP Sainik School regular-fee window closes on 25 October. If RMS CET is on your child’s list, there is no later chance — apply before 20 October to avoid the Rs 500 late fee.
Parents often treat these as interchangeable “military school exams.” They are not. RIMCEE is the gateway to a single institution — the Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun — and it is a two-stage process: a written exam in English, Mathematics and General Knowledge, then a viva-voce for those who clear it (tentatively April 2027). RMS CET is a single pen-and-paper MCQ test for five schools across four states — Chail, Ajmer, Dholpur, Belgaum and Bengaluru. The UP Sainik School exam is the outlier: one 200-mark OMR paper in 2 hours 30 minutes, run by the UP Sainik Schools Society, with strict domicile rules that quietly disqualify families every year.
The preparation overlap is real — mathematics, English and general knowledge are common ground — but the pace of the papers is very different. A child sitting the UP paper on 20 December a week after RMS CET needs to mentally switch gears, not just subjects.
We’ve been tracking each of these closely: our RIMCEE pattern explainer breaks down how the 6 December paper differs from AISSEE, the UP Sainik School deadline guide covers the 200-mark paper and domicile rules, and our RMS CET deadline piece has the fee and eligibility details. For the youngest aspirants, there’s the JNVST Class 6 countdown.
Which defence-school entrance exams are held in December 2026? Three: the RIMCEE Stage-1 written exam for RIMC Dehradun on 6 December, the RMS CET for Rashtriya Military Schools on 13 December, and the UP Sainik School entrance exam on 20 December (tentative). AISSEE 2027 for Sainik Schools follows on 31 January 2027 (tentative).
Is the RMS CET 2026 application still open? Yes — the NTA application window runs till 20 October 2026 (5 pm), with a late-fee window from 21 to 25 October. The fee is Rs 1000 for General/OBC and Rs 750 for SC/ST and wards of personnel killed in action.
Are the RIMCEE and RMS CET papers the same? No. RIMCEE Stage-1 covers English, Mathematics and General Knowledge in a written exam plus a viva-voce stage for shortlisted candidates. RMS CET 2026 is a pen-and-paper MCQ test for Class 6 and 9 admission to the five Rashtriya Military Schools.
