AISSEE Class 6 Science: The Chapters That Carry the Most Marks
📢 Last Updated: October 23, 2026 at 7:15 AM IST — This article is updated regularly with the latest AISSEE 2027 information, official notifications & expert insights.

Last verified: 23 October 2026. The Class 6 paper pattern (150 min, 125 questions, 300 marks; Maths 50Q/150, Language, Intelligence and GK 25Q/50 each) is ✅ CONFIRMED from the AISSEE 2026 pattern, expected to repeat in 2027. Chapter priorities below are 🔶 EXPECTED — our analysis of previous-paper topic patterns, not an official NTA syllabus.

Here’s something most parents discover embarrassingly late: the AISSEE Class 6 paper has no Science section at all. Open the paper and you’ll find four sections — Mathematics, Language, Intelligence, General Knowledge. So where does science live? Inside GK, quietly, in about 4 to 5 questions per paper.

And here’s why those 4–5 questions punch above their weight. A child needs at least 25% in each section to qualify (40% aggregate overall, per the AISSEE rules). For GK, 25% of 50 marks is 12.5 — which, with 2-mark questions, effectively means getting 7 questions right. A student who has prepared history and geography but blanks the science questions is suddenly fighting to cross that sectional cutoff. I’ve seen children lose a Sainik School seat by 2 marks sitting entirely inside the GK section. Don’t let that be your child.

Where the science questions actually come from

NTA doesn’t publish a fixed GK syllabus, so this is reconstructed from previous papers (2018–2026) and consistent education-portal analyses:

The chapter priority map

Ranked by how often each cluster feeds actual questions. “High” means it has appeared nearly every year; “Medium” means every second or third year; “Low” means rare — skip only after the rest is done.

NCERT Class 5 EVS chapter What AISSEE actually asks Priority
From Tasting to Digesting (ch 3) Teeth, digestion stages, role of saliva/stomach High
Seeds and Seeds (ch 5) Germination conditions, seed dispersal methods, seed parts High
Every Drop Counts + Experiments with Water (ch 6–7) Water cycle, states of water, filtration, conservation High
Sunita in Space (ch 11) Planets, order from the sun, day-night, space basics High
Blow Hot, Blow Cold (ch 15) Breathing, lungs, why we blow to cool/warm High
A Treat for Mosquitoes (ch 8) Malaria, mosquito breeding, stagnant water Medium
Super Senses (ch 1) Animal senses — smell, hearing, night vision Medium
When the Earth Shook! (ch 14) Earthquakes, safety measures Medium
What if it Finishes? (ch 12) Fuels, petrol/diesel saving, conservation habits Medium
Mangoes Round the Year (ch 4) Food preservation — drying, pickling, cold storage Medium
Up You Go! (ch 9) Mountains, cold adaptation, oxygen at altitude Medium
Walls Tell Stories (ch 10) Forts and monuments — overlaps with history GK Low–Medium
A Snake Charmer’s Story (ch 2), A Shelter so High! (ch 13), Who will do this Work? (ch 16), Across the Wall (ch 17), No Place for Us? (ch 18), A Seed tells a Farmer’s Story (ch 19), Whose Forests? (ch 20), Like Father, Like Daughter (ch 21), On the Move Again (ch 22) Social themes, civics overlap — rarely asked as science Low

Notice the pattern? NTA loves the body, the plant, the sky, and water. Everything a 10-year-old can observe. Abstract definitions almost never make it into the paper; observation-based questions do. When you revise, ask your child “what happens if…” questions, not “define…” ones.

The 3-week coverage plan

Honestly, this whole topic needs about 30 minutes a day for three weeks — not a separate “science subject” timetable.

One worked example, so you see the flavour. A previous paper asked roughly: which gas do plants absorb from air for photosynthesis? A child who read Seeds and Seeds and Blow Hot, Blow Cold answers “carbon dioxide” in three seconds. A child who memorised definitions from a guidebook hesitates. Observation beats memorisation — that’s the whole secret of this section.

FAQs

Is there a separate Science section in the AISSEE Class 6 paper? No. The Class 6 paper has Mathematics (50 questions, 150 marks), Language (25/50), Intelligence (25/50) and General Knowledge (25/50). Science questions — about 4 to 5 per paper — sit inside the GK section.

Which NCERT book covers AISSEE Class 6 science questions? NCERT Class 5 EVS (Looking Around) is the base text. Add basic physics reading (light, shadow, sound, force) at Class 6 level, since EVS covers those topics only lightly.

How many science questions come in AISSEE Class 6 GK? About 4 to 5 of the 25 GK questions, worth 8 to 10 marks. Small — but they often decide the 25% sectional cutoff in GK, so they matter more than their marks suggest.

Which science chapters should I finish first for AISSEE Class 6? Start with digestion (From Tasting to Digesting), plants and seeds (Seeds and Seeds), water (Every Drop Counts, Experiments with Water) and the solar system (Sunita in Space). Then breathing (Blow Hot, Blow Cold). That covers the bulk of what repeats.

Does AISSEE Class 6 science ask chemistry questions? Almost never. The Class 6 science questions concentrate on biology (human body, plants, animals) and basic physics. Chemistry-type questions are rare at this level — save serious chemistry for the Class 9 paper.
