Note the rhythm: this is a five-month funnel. The correction window (Nov 3–5) matters more than it looks — the portal states that registration-stage details cannot be edited after successful registration (TOI), so use that window rather than discovering a wrong date of birth in January.
The eligibility fine print parents miss
The prospectus carries three rules that surprise families every year:
- Double domicile. Not just the child — the applicant and their father must both be domiciles of Uttar Pradesh ✅ (edexlive, citing prospectus).
- Age cutoffs are tight. Class 6: born 2 July 2015 – 1 January 2018; Class 9: born 2 July 2012 – 1 January 2015 ✅. Both dates inclusive.
- Boys/girls rules differ by school. At the Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey UP Sainik School, Lucknow, Class 6 is boys only; Class 9 takes boys and girls. The Gorakhpur school is co-ed for both classes ✅.
Academic bar: the child must pass Class 5 (or Class 8) from a recognised school by 20 May 2027 ✅. Reservations per the prospectus: 27% OBC, 21% SC, 10% EWS-General, 2% ST ✅.
The exam itself
The written test is OMR-based and objective: English, General Knowledge, Mathematics and Intelligence — 200 marks, two hours and thirty minutes ✅ (edexlive, prospectus). Shortlisted candidates then face a medical examination and an interview; final selection rests on written score, medical fitness, interview and reservation rules.
