The Indian Army has opened one of its most valuable officer entries of the year. The 10+2 Technical Entry Scheme (TES-57) notification for the July 2027 course was released on 14 October 2026, offering 90 provisional vacancies for a Permanent Commission as Lieutenant — open to unmarried male students who have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Maths.
Applications run from 14 October to 12 November 2026 (12:00 noon) on the official portal, joinindianarmy.nic.in. There is no application fee for any category.

TES skips the UPSC-style written paper entirely. Shortlisting happens on JEE Main 2026 rank (a cut-off is expected around the fourth week of November 2026), followed by a 5-day SSB interview at Prayagraj, Bhopal, Bengaluru or Jalandhar, then a medical examination. The final merit list is prepared on SSB marks alone — higher qualifications or NCC background add no weightage.
Training is four years in uniform: three years of engineering at a Cadet Training Wing (CME Pune, MCTE Mhow or MCEME Secunderabad — B.Tech in Civil/Mechanical, Telecom/IT or Electronics/Mechanical), then one year at IMA Dehradun, where a stipend of ₹56,100/month is paid. Commissioning is as Lieutenant with a Permanent Commission; no stipend is paid during the first three years.
One number deserves attention: on arrival for training, cadets are expected to run 2.4 km in 10 minutes 30 seconds, manage 40 push-ups, 6 pull-ups and 30 sit-ups, and know the basics of swimming. This is not tested at the SSB — it is simply assumed.
TES is open only to male candidates, so it directly concerns the Class 11–12 boys of Sainik Schools — the students who took PCM and appeared in JEE Main 2026. It also runs twice a year, so this cycle and the January course give two realistic shots a year. With the 12 November deadline arriving in three weeks, eligible students should apply now rather than wait for the shortlist cut-off.
