AISSEE 2027 Exam Pattern Explained
📢 Last Updated: October 17, 2026 at 9:15 PM IST — This article is updated regularly with the latest AISSEE 2027 information, official notifications & expert insights.

Last verified: 17 October 2026. Exam date (31 January 2027) is CONFIRMED via the NTA Exam Calendar 2026-27. Section-wise marks, question counts, durations and the no-negative-marking rule were cross-checked today against AglaSem and Careers360, both quoting the latest official AISSEE information bulletin. Facts marked CONFIRMED have two independent sources; where the 2027 bulletin is still awaited, that is stated plainly.

As of today, the 2027 AISSEE information bulletin is still not out — we checked NTA/AISSEE coverage from the last 48 hours and there is nothing new. But here is what most parents miss: you do not need the bulletin to start planning, because the exam’s skeleton barely changes between years. The pattern below is CONFIRMED from the latest official bulletin (via AglaSem and Careers360) and is the structure the 2027 paper is expected to follow.

With 106 days between today and the confirmed exam date of 31 January 2027, understanding the paper’s architecture is the highest-value thing you can do this week.

Class 6: 300 marks, 150 minutes

The Class VI paper (for children studying in Class 5) has 125 questions worth 300 marks, to be finished in 150 minutes (2:00 PM to 4:30 PM), all on an OMR sheet.

Section Subject Questions Marks per question Total marks
A Language 25 2 50
B Mathematics 50 3 150
C Intelligence 25 2 50
D General Knowledge 25 2 50
Total 125 300

Class 9: 400 marks, 180 minutes

The Class IX paper (for children studying in Class 8) has 150 questions worth 400 marks in 180 minutes (2:00 PM to 5:00 PM).

Three facts that should change how your child prepares

1. Maths is half the battle. In Class 6, Mathematics alone is 150 of 300 marks; in Class 9, it is 200 of 400 marks. And each maths question pays more — 3 marks in Class 6, 4 marks in Class 9 — while every other section pays 2. A child who is merely average at maths is leaving the biggest chunk of the paper on the table. We went deep on this earlier this week: read our 108-day Class 6 maths sprint.

2. You get 72 seconds per question — in both classes. Class 6: 150 minutes ÷ 125 questions. Class 9: 180 minutes ÷ 150 questions. Identical. That number tells you everything about strategy: questions are meant to be solvable quickly, and spending five minutes wrestling one hard problem is mathematically worse than moving on. Practice must be timed, not just correct.

3. There is no negative marking — so attempt everything. A wrong answer and a blank both score zero (CONFIRMED — AglaSem, Careers360). The last 10 minutes of the paper should never find a single unmarked bubble. Guessing is free; leaving blanks is voluntary surrender.

The language question

Class 6 candidates can take the paper in English, Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Assamese, Telugu, Odiya, Punjabi, Kannada, Bengali, Tamil or Urdu (CONFIRMED — AglaSem). Class 9 is English only. If your child is in Class 5 and still reading hesitantly in the language they will answer in, that — not more maths — is the first thing to fix in the next 106 days.

What to do this week

  1. Work the 72-second rule into every practice session. Start timing individual questions, not just whole papers.
  2. Recalibrate study time toward maths. It carries half the marks at higher per-question weight — it deserves roughly half the study hours.
  3. Pick the exam language deliberately (Class 6 only) and practise reading comprehension in that language daily.
  4. Track the notification. The form window is expected in October–November 2026 (EXPECTED — 2025 pattern, 10 Oct–30 Oct). We are monitoring it daily in our notification watch so you do not have to.
