Last verified: 20 October 2026 (Tuesday). The AISSEE allotment-and-joining sequence described here reflects the standard AISSAC counselling process (allotment letter, reporting to the allotted school, document verification) — CONFIRMED through our earlier counselling coverage. Specific dates, fee heads and kit lists differ by school and year; treat those as per your child’s call-up letter, not this guide.
The merit list is out, the allotment letter names a school, and now comes the part nobody writes about: reporting day. Parents call us asking the same three questions — what papers to carry, whether they can stay, and what happens to their child in the first week. This guide answers all three, plainly.
Everything else on reporting day flows from paperwork. Carry originals plus two sets of self-attested photocopies of each. Schools verify originals against the copies and keep the copies.
| Document | Why they ask | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Allotment letter (AISSAC) | Proves the seat is yours | Print it; phone screenshots are not enough |
| Birth certificate | Age verification against AISSEE eligibility | Must match the name on the form exactly |
| Transfer certificate (TC) | Confirms the child left the previous school cleanly | Get it countersigned by the previous school’s principal |
| Previous class report card | Academic eligibility check | Class 5 pass for Class 6 entry; Class 8 for Class 9 |
| Domicile certificate | Confirms home-state quota claim | Only if you claimed the 67% home-state quota |
| Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL) | Reservation claim | OBC-NCL must be valid for the relevant financial year |
| Defence/service certificate | Defence-quota claim | Only if you applied under the defence category |
| Medical fitness certificate | Some schools ask for one at reporting | If your letter does not mention it, the school’s own check covers it |
| Passport photos (8–10) | File, ID card, medical records | Recent, same batch |
| Aadhaar card of child | Identity | Handy even when not listed |
See our counselling-day master checklist for the fuller pre-reporting version of this list.
One honest warning: name mismatches are the single biggest reporting-day headache. If the birth certificate spells the name “Vikram” and the TC says “Vikram Singh”, get an affidavit or a school correction before reporting day, not on it.
Arrive early — queues form fast and the whole exercise runs on a timetable, not on request. A typical reporting day runs in this order:
The first day from the child’s perspective is a different story — read that alongside this one.
Every school runs its own induction, but the shape is remarkably similar across schools:
| Day | What usually happens |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | Reporting, kit issue, settling into the dormitory |
| Days 2–3 | Induction: rules, routine, campus orientation, house introductions |
| Days 4–5 | Classes begin; PT and games routine starts |
| Weekend | First letter/phone window as per school rules; the worst of the homesickness usually peaks here |
| Week 2 | Routine takes over — early mornings stop feeling impossible |
For the emotional side of the transition, our homesickness guide walks through the adjustment curve honestly.
What documents do I need on Sainik School reporting day? The allotment letter, birth certificate, transfer certificate, previous class report card, domicile and category certificates if you claimed them, medical fitness certificate if requested, and recent photographs — originals plus two self-attested copies of each.
Do parents stay on campus after reporting day? No. Once verification and joining are done, parents leave the same day. Sainik Schools are fully residential and do not provide parent accommodation.
Is there a medical check on reporting day? Most schools conduct or verify a medical examination around admission time. Timing varies by school — follow your call-up letter.
Do I pay fees on reporting day? Fees for the year are payable around joining time as stated in the admission letter. Keep the payment mode the letter specifies ready.
What should my child carry besides documents? Follow the school’s kit list: a few sets of personal clothing and essentials. Leave valuables and gadgets at home; lockers are small and phones are typically restricted for new students.
