Missed the AISSEE Deadline? Every Backup Option Still Open — And What Each Costs You
📢 Last Updated: October 23, 2026 at 9:15 PM IST — This article is updated regularly with the latest AISSEE 2027 information, official notifications & expert insights.

Last verified: 23 October 2026. The AISSEE 2027 form is not out yet — ✅ CONFIRMED by pre-notification status checks dated 22 October 2026 (EntranceZone tracker) and 21 October (CollegeDunia tracker, checking the official NTA portal). The 2026-cycle dates (notification 10 October 2025, exam 18 January 2026, result 27 February 2026) and 2026 fee (₹850 General/OBC/Defence, ₹700 SC/ST) are from the 2026 information bulletin as reported by Aglasem and CollegeDunia. The AISSEE 2027 exam date of 31 January 2027 comes from NTA’s official examination calendar of 16 September 2026 — ✅ CONFIRMED but tentative. RMS CET and UP Sainik dates below are ✅ CONFIRMED from NTA/official-portal reporting (Zollege, CareerBox, Times of India, Jagran Josh, Careers360). Everything projected for the 2027 window is 🔶 EXPECTED.

First, the honest truth: the AISSEE deadline has not arrived

You have not missed anything yet. NTA has published no information bulletin, no application form and no official dates for AISSEE 2027. The 2026 cycle opened on 10 October 2025, so we are now about 13 days past last year’s pace — a delay, but not a closed door.

That said, defence-school aspirants have learned a hard lesson from the RMS CET and UP Sainik cycles this year: when the window opens, it is short. RMS CET’s regular form window lasted under a month; UP Sainik’s regular window ends Sunday, 25 October, at 5 pm. If the AISSEE window turns out similarly tight, being ready with documents matters more than watching the portal.

And if the window does slip past you — or if your child’s backup strategy was always to apply to parallel exams — here is every real backup, with what each one actually costs.

The backup scorecard (as of tonight)

Backup Status tonight Deadline Extra cost if you apply late Exam date
RMS CET 2026 (5 military schools) OPEN — late window 25 Oct, 5 pm (fee till 11:50 pm) +₹500 on the normal fee 13 Dec 2026
UP Sainik School 2027-28 (Lucknow + Gorakhpur) OPEN 25 Oct, 5 pm regular; 31 Oct late window ₹1,000 → ₹2,000 total 20 Dec 2026 (tentative)
RIMCEE 2026 (RIMC Dehradun) CLOSED Registration closed late September Not applicable 6 Dec 2026
JNVST Class 6, 2027 CLOSED Registration was 6 Jul–10 Aug 2026 Not applicable 28 Nov 2026
AISSEE 2028 Not announced 🔶 EXPECTED Oct 2027 Free, but costs a year 🔶 EXPECTED Jan 2028

Backup 1: RMS CET 2026 — the cheapest insurance, and it closes in 48 hours

Rashtriya Military Schools (Chail, Ajmer, Dholpur, Belgaum, Bengaluru) admit via NTA’s Common Entrance Test. The regular window closed on 20 October; the late window runs 21–25 October, up to 5 pm, with a ₹500 late fee added to the normal fee (₹1,000 for General/OBC, ₹750 for SC/ST and wards of personnel killed in action). A short correction window opens 27–28 October. The OMR-based written test is on 13 December 2026.

Who it’s for: Class 6 aspirants aged 10–13 as on 31 March 2027 (born 1 April 2014–31 March 2017) and Class 9 aspirants aged 13–16 (born 1 April 2011–31 March 2014). Defence families note: 70% of seats go to the entitled category (JCO/OR wards), 20% to officers’ wards and 10% to civilians — the reserved-seat structure is far more generous than AISSEE’s for defence kids.

What it costs you: ₹500 extra and one weekend of paperwork. The syllabus overlaps heavily with AISSEE prep, so your child’s AISSEE study does double duty.

Backup 2: UP Sainik School — still open, but the ₹1,000 late fee is two days away

The UP Sainik Schools Society’s entrance exam (Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey UP Sainik School, Lucknow, and Sainik School Gorakhpur) takes ₹1,000 without late fee until 25 October, 5 pm. From 26–31 October, the total becomes ₹2,000. The correction window is 3–5 November, and the exam is tentatively 20 December 2026.

Who it’s for: Only UP domicile families — both the applicant and the father need UP domicile proof. Class 6 (born 2 July 2015–1 January 2018) and Class 9 (born 2 July 2012–1 January 2015). Read our late-fee decision guide before choosing which window to apply in.

What it costs you: Apply on or before Sunday and it costs you nothing extra. Miss Sunday and it’s a flat ₹1,000 more.

Backup 3: RIMCEE 2026 — closed, but learn its timing

The Rashtriya Indian Military College entrance (Dehradun) closed registration in late September and the written exam is 6 December 2026. If your child was eligible and you missed it, the cost is real: the next RIMC cycle is a full year away.

The lesson: RIMCEE opens and closes before most parents start their AISSEE-season routine. Next year, put the RIMC/RMS deadlines on your calendar before the AISSEE notification watch begins.

Backup 4: JNVST 2027 — closed for Class 6, free education lost for a year

Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti ran Class 6 registration from 6 July to 10 August 2026 (extended); the exam is on 28 November 2026. JNVST charges zero application fee and offers free education plus hostel — the best-value residential option in the country — but the window is gone for this cycle.

The lesson: JNVST is a summer form, not an autumn one. It closes months before AISSEE opens, so it is a planning backup, not a rescue backup. Next cycle, treat July as the start of the defence-and-Navodaya application season.

Backup 5: AISSEE 2028 — the honest cost of “next year”

If the 2027 window genuinely passes your child by, AISSEE 2028 is the fallback. But count the cost honestly:

Rule of thumb: if your child is near the upper age limit for their class, a backup this year (RMS CET or UP Sainik) is worth more than a perfect shot next year. If they are young in the window, waiting is defensible — but only if you keep preparing.

Your 48-hour action checklist (do this tonight)

  1. Check RMS CET eligibility now — age as on 31 March 2027, documents, photo/signature scans. If eligible, start the form tonight; the late window closes 25 October at 5 pm.
  2. If you are a UP family, finish the UP Sainik form before Sunday 5 pm and save the ₹1,000 late fee.
  3. Keep the AISSEE document kit ready anyway — birth certificate, caste/domicile certificates, recent photo and signature scans — because the NTA window could be weeks long or days short, and nobody knows which.
  4. Bookmark the real portals — exams.nta.nic.in/sainik-school-society (AISSEE), exams.nta.nic.in/rmscet (RMS CET), upsainikschool.org (UP Sainik). Everything else is noise.
  5. Don’t trust “form out” claims on social media until the portal itself shows the bulletin — our notification fact-check history shows false claims circulate every cycle.

FAQs

Is the AISSEE 2027 application form out yet?

No. Checks on 22 October 2026 confirm the cycle is still pre-notification — NTA has published no information bulletin, no form and no dates. The AISSEE 2026 cycle opened on 10 October 2025, so the 2027 cycle is running about 13 days behind last year’s pace.

Which backup exam can I still apply for right now?

Two are open tonight: RMS CET 2026’s late window (apply by 25 October, 5 pm, with a ₹500 late fee) and UP Sainik School 2027-28 (regular window till 25 October, 5 pm; late-fee window till 31 October at ₹2,000 total).

How much does the UP Sainik School late fee cost?

The regular fee is ₹1,000. Applying between 26 and 31 October costs ₹2,000 total — effectively ₹1,000 extra for missing the first deadline.

Is RIMCEE 2026 registration still open?

No. RIMCEE 2026 registration closed in late September. The written exam is on 6 December 2026 per NTA’s calendar, so missed candidates must wait for the next RIMC cycle.

Is JNVST 2027 Class 6 registration still open?

No. JNVST Class 6 registration ran from 6 July to 10 August 2026 (extended), and the exam is on 28 November 2026. Class 6 applications are closed.

What is the real cost of waiting for AISSEE 2028 instead?

Time and age risk. A Class 6 aspirant who turns 13 before 31 March 2028 loses AISSEE Class 6 eligibility permanently; a Class 9 aspirant who turns 16 loses Class 9 eligibility. If your child is near the upper age limit, a backup this year is safer than betting a whole year.
