The single most important date in your child’s year right now: 31 January 2027. That’s when AISSEE 2027 is scheduled, ✅ confirmed (tentative) in NTA’s official exam calendar for 2026-27, released on 16 September 2026 on nta.ac.in. Everything else in the calendar below flows backwards from that one fixed point. Here’s the honest picture, though: the notification itself hasn’t released yet, so most of the other dates are projections from the last three cycles’ pattern — clearly labelled so you know exactly what’s solid and what’s an educated estimate.

A quick note on “tentative”: NTA labels exam dates as tentative in its calendar because dates can shift if circumstances demand. It happens rarely, and when it does, NTA announces it well in advance. Treat 31 January as the plan; we’ll update this page the day anything changes.
Three cycles tell a story. In 2024, the exam was 28 January; in 2025, an unusual 5 April (that cycle ran late for administrative reasons); in 2026, back to 18 January. The notification has landed in October for two of the three recent cycles, with the application window following immediately. That’s why we project October 2026 for the bulletin — not because we have inside information, but because the pattern is consistent enough to plan around.
Here’s the thing — planning around expected dates is actually the smart move. If the notification comes in October as projected, you want the documents ready before it drops: birth certificate, caste certificate if applicable, domicile, a recent photo, the school leaving certificate. Scrambling for a caste certificate during a 3-week application window is the classic parent mistake. A friend of mine went through this in 2024 — the tehsil office took two weeks, and they filed the form on the last day with shaking hands. Don’t be them.
The exam is offline, pen-and-paper OMR, MCQ format, with no negative marking (✅ 2026 pattern, expected to repeat). Two separate papers depending on the class your child is entering:
Class 6: 150 minutes, 125 questions, 300 marks. Maths carries half the weight — 50 questions for 150 marks — followed by Language, Intelligence, and General Knowledge at 25 questions / 50 marks each. Available in 13 languages/mediums.
Class 9: 180 minutes, 150 questions, 400 marks. Maths again dominates at 50 questions / 200 marks, with English, Intelligence, General Science, and Social Science at 25 questions / 50 marks each. English medium only.
Qualifying bar: 25% in each section and 40% aggregate — though this doesn’t apply to SC/ST candidates (✅ per the 2026 bulletin). And remember, qualifying isn’t the same as getting a seat. Sainik Schools run a merit-based counselling (AISSAC, run by the Sainik Schools Society at pesa.ncog.gov.in), and cutoffs vary wildly by state and category.
Results typically land 6–8 weeks after the exam — so roughly March 2027. The sequence is: provisional answer key first (with a short window to challenge it), then the final answer key, then the result with your child’s scorecard. Download the scorecard immediately and keep it; you’ll need it through counselling.
Counselling happens through AISSAC (All India Sainik Schools Admission Counselling) — online, around 6 rounds, and notably, no counselling fee (✅). School allotment follows merit, reservation rules (67% home-state / 33% other-states for the 33 established schools), and the category quotas. After seat allotment comes document verification and the medical test — standard fitness checks, nothing to stress about, but the medical standards are real and worth reading in advance.
